an invitation to \'ärt\ / by Tatiana Thomas

As a kid I was naturally artistic...I promise I'm not bragging, I just was (Scout's honor).  If you drew a circle on a paper and I made it sphere. Or a triangle was easily a pyramid. My Chemistry notes weren't written down, they were doodled in Sharpies and colorful gel ink. But not everyone learned the same so their notes in class were more...structured. As a matter of fact, most of my friends learned differently. So I get it, many of you might find art a little unstructured and unknown. You may not be attracted to art and it's purpose. Yep...I realize that you might find art a bit confusing or maybe even intimidating.

So let's ask a few century long questions: What is art?  Is it a thing? Is it an act? Or possibly a feeling?  Listen, I'll be real with you, there's no right or wrong answer when you're digesting art. That's the beauty of it.  There isn't a Number 2 pencil that can fill in the correct bubble on a scantron (if you don't know what a scantron is...Google it).  It's all according to you.  So I'm inviting you to Art.

To see it. To be it. To create it.

So what now? Well, I need you to take a seat and think back for a second.  Have you ever been in love? Or in serious delusional LIKE with a person? Now, can you recall a moment where you felt so drastically engulfed in your emotions for this person that you were drawn to be in their presence? I mean an emotion so reckless that you changed who you were, whether it be for better or worse.

So now you can recall that it's a feeling that you can't really describe. Something that takes you on a rollercoaster & it gives you "all the feels" that you need to be happy & sometimes even sad.

It's often spoken as if it's a thing, right? "Oh, are you in love?" but sometimes it's as if it's a act, "Did you love him/her?" Almost like it's an invitation you can give or resend.  Regardless, we never actually see love and for everyone it's known differently. So what you should understand is that art is the same: "Often a thing, unseen and understood". We never see it the way someone else does, but it's understood the way it should be.

So stick with me on this artistic journey folks.  We're going places!
